Members of Parliament have changed the venue for sittings to observe the coronavirus protocols
The Chairman of Business Committee and Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has notified the House that the number of staff and journalist covering proceedings will be reduced to allow the house to properly follow the covid-19 protocols.
This will help reduce the spread of COVID-19 at the time of the new wave.
During a presentation of business for the fifth week, the Majority Leader said,”… As Honourable Members may be aware, sitting arrangements in the house have been re-organised in line with physical distancing protocols. Furthermore, giving the upsurge in cases of covid-19 infections and associated deaths, the business committee recommends that the Clerk of Parliament take steps to ensure that only essential staff of the parliamentary services report undertaking official duties.”

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu: Majority caucus in Parliament will be decided Jan 15

The immediate-past Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has disclosed that the party that forms the Majority side in the 8th Parliament will be known on January 15, 2021, when the House has its first sitting.
Currently, both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have 137 Members of Parliament (MPs) each with one independent MP making up the 275 total number of MPs in Parliament and both parties have claimed the ‘Majority’ title for themselves.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said though the Independent MP for Fomena in the Ashanti Region, Andrews Asiamah Amoako had publicly stated that he would do business with the NPP caucus the latter’s position was not official.

The Attorney General’s (AG) Department must be detached from the Ministry of Justice for reduced interference from the government, majority leader in the sixth parliament, Alban Bagbin said in 2015.
Mr Bagbin believed such a move which he described as a “political position”, will ensure more efficiency in the delivery of justice in the country.
