Lawmakers on Wednesday blocked objections to President-elect Joe Biden s election win in Arizona and Pennsylvania Wednesday evening, paving the way for Congress to formalize Biden s victory.
The votes came after Congress reconvened hours after violent insurrectionists stormed the Capitol, forcing party leadership to evacuate the scene while rioters overtook the complex. Violent protesters loyal to President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and forced lawmakers into hiding, in a stunning attempt to overturn America’s presidential election, undercut the nation’s democracy and keep President-elect Joe Biden from replacing Trump in the White House.
One woman was confirmed to have been shot and killed. The National Guard and state and federal police were called in for control, and rare evening curfews were declared in Washington and nearby Virginia suburbs.
