With President Donald Trump having signed the latest COVID-19 relief legislation, stimulus checks of up to $600 are due to be sent out to those suffering economic woes posed by the pandemic.
People with an adjusted gross income of up to $75,000 will receive the full $600 amount while joint filers up to $150,000 will get up to $1,200.

Olivia Troye, Vice President Mike Pence s former homeland security and counterterrorism adviser, warned that she is personally very concerned about the possibility of violence from President Donald Trump s supporters on January 6 the day Congress formally counts the electoral votes.
The Electoral College voted on December 14 to certify President-elect Joe Biden s win against Trump. But the president and his supporters continue to claim, without evidence, that Biden won through widespread voter fraud. Legal challenges brought by lawyers for the president and his supporters have nearly all failed. Former Attorney General William Barr, who resigned this month, also asserted that there is no evidence of election fraud that would change the results.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday blocked Democrats push to immediately bring President Donald Trump s demand for bigger $2,000 COVID-19 relief checks up for a vote, saying the chamber would begin a process to address the issue.
Pressure is mounting on the Republican-led Senate to follow the House, which voted overwhelmingly on Monday to meet the president s demand to increase the checks from $600 as the virus crisis worsens. A growing number of Republicans, including two senators in runoff elections on Jan. 5 in Georgia, have said they will support the larger amount.

In the biggest gain for animal welfare in 2020, and in the $900 billion year-end spending bill, President Trump signed into law Sunday night, the Horseracing Integrity and Safety (HISA) Safety Act, H.R. 1754/S. 4547, concluding an eight-year campaign to end medication abuses leading to breakdowns and injuries and deaths on tracks across the nation.
The House passed H.R. 1754, led by U.S. Representatives Paul Tonko, D-N.Y., and Andy Barr, R-Ky. by a voice vote in September, but the Senate had not taken up S. 4547 introduced by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. that promises to end the era of widespread doping of horses in Thoroughbred racing in America.

Trump signed into law a relief package that will bring a second stimulus check to millions of Americans, but it is only for $600, an amount both Democrats and the president don t think is enough. They would like to see it increased to $2,000, but since the new bill is already signed, $600 checks will start going out in the coming days. That doesn t mean the amount won t increase though. This week, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would bring the check to $2,000 with two-thirds of the chamber in favor of it - both Democrats and Republicans. Now it has to pass the Senate and if it does, checks for $1,400 will then be distributed. However for that to happen, it might take a fight.
