Armed Standoff in Minden Ends With Suspect in Custody
Webster Parish Sheriff s Office, along with other agencies dealt with an armed and barricaded individual Thursday (7/22/21). The person was apparently making suicidal and threatening phone calls to the police and a mental health professional. The suspect was seen with a firearm before retreating back to the residence.
The residence is located on Gladney Street, and police quickly blocked off the area surrounding the street, including the nearby Brookshire s grocery store. Brookshire s and several other surrounding businesses had to be evacuated. SWAT was called in, and were posted on the street in case things could not end peacefully.
Joseph Lee Smith is one of the six men that had True Bills returned against them by a Caddo Grand Jury. Smith, back in March was arrested in connection with the murder of 5 year-old Mya Patel. Smith basically confessed to the crime in a video on social media which can be seen HERE.
Of the six true bills, the substance involved were all felonies including murder and rape.

Joseph Lee Smith, 33, was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery and obstruction of justice in connection with the March 20, 2021 slaying of Mya Vimal Patel. Ms. Patel, 5, was shot as she played near a window of the motel her family was at in the 4900 block of Monkhouse Drive.

The recent rains have brought some serious complications into the lives of folks in the ArkLaTex. According to the National Parks Service and a report from KSAT, the rains have caused a certain nocturnal (meaning that it sleeps during the day in order to hunt at night) creature to emerge in the daylight to find sustenance - and the very sight of this land-lobster thing has been terrifying visitors. What you see above is a Tailless Whipscorpion, and it s commonly known as a Vinegaroon.
A successful weekend operation by Shreveport Police got some dangerous guns and drugs off the street. Multiple felony arrests were made on the weekend of July 16-17, 2021 all thanks to Operation Blue Anvil .
The Shreveport Police Department conducted a Citywide Operation, “Blue Anvil”. The purpose of the Blue Anvil Operation was to target illegal firearms and target violent crimes in a city-wide effort. A total of 23 felony arrests were made along with 10 firearms seized. Police also seized a wide variety of illegal narcotics.
