Readers react to call for open mind to weapons licensing

Daily Mercury readers have had their say on Mirani MP Stephen Andrew s claims the current weapons licensing system is demonising licensed firearm owners. In a question on notice in Queensland Parliament to Police Minister Mark Ryan, Mr Andrew said this compared to fewer than 120 cases for the whole of the preceding 11 years. Mirani MP Stephen Andrew. The changes made because of that massacre are amply sufficient. We must remember the 35 people killed and the many other injured on that day and not let the likes of Stephen Andrews allow changes that could see it happen again.

Most Australians willing to take a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine but hesitancy remains, report finds

Despite this, vaccine willingness has remained high and stable since the start of the year.  The report found 54.7 per cent of surveyed Australians said they would definitely get a safe and effective vaccine in April, up from 43.7 per cent in January. About 28 per cent they probably would, and 11 per cent said they probably wouldn t.  These findings are extremely important as the government attempts to reconcile public sentiment and confidence in its vaccine program, report author Professor Nicholas Biddle said. Hesitancy persists among some members of multicultural communities The report also explored vaccine willingness among those who speak a language other than English and found 44.8 per cent of those respondents said they would definitely get a safe and effective vaccine if it was available to them.

This marked a 60 per cent increase from $51,332 in 2016 but this was a small fraction of the $535,000 figure recommended by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia to allow for a comfortable retirement. Super savers close to retirement, in their fifties and early sixties, didn t have enough either with average balances of just $149,000. Parrtjima, the greatest desert show on earth, is all heart The Alice Springs festival casts Indigenous culture and the 300-million-year-old West MacDonnell ranges in a profound and beautiful light. The six-minute ‘Spirit Kultcha’ show illuminates the West MacDonnell Ranges.   Share Bundjalung woman Rhoda Roberts had some quick explaining to do when she wanted to project a Central Desert artwork in mosaics of light on five large glass camels. “It wasn’t the camels per se,” says Roberts, curator of Parrtjima – A Festival in Light. The reference group of local leaders of the Arrernte people of the Central Desert “were more intrigued as to why the artwork wasn’t going to be shown on canvas, like paintings are normally displayed”.
