Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is also called Zombie Deer Disease because of the symptoms it causes. An infected animal starts to stumble, act lifeless and confused about a year after an animal is infected, officials say.
A deer was found on the border of New York with Zombie Deer Disease, the New York State DEC confirmed to Hudson Valley Post. A deer taken on a Warren County, PA, captive shooting facility in mid-December 2020 was recently confirmed positive for Chronic Wasting Disease. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a real threat to New York’s wild deer and moose populations, and the latest detection in Pennsylvania brings the disease to our border. We’re encouraged by the swift actions of officials in Pennsylvania and that CWD was not detected in the other captive deer, the New York State DEC told Hudson Valley Post in an email.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were 18 deaths and 15,600 people treated in emergency departments for fireworks-related injuries in the US last year.
In addition to the obvious safety hazards, fireworks can be stressful for domestic pets, people with anxiety disorders, and shift workers whose sleep patterns coincide with fireworks use.
Laramie Municipal Code, in part, states the following
“Any person who violates any of the provisions of the International Fire Code…shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not less than fifty dollars nor more than seven hundred fifty dollars…This section is in addition to all other remedies which the city may use to enforce compliance.”
Recovery and the high rates of human-caused mortality among grizzly bears in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem are the topics of the second seminar of the University of Wyoming’s Harlow Summer Seminars program, which will be taking place on July 8 in Jackson.
David Finnoff, a professor in the UW Department of Economics, will discuss “Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem Grizzly Bear Recovery and Managing Mortality” at 6:30 p.m. at UW’s Teton County Extension office.
Finnoff will be presenting the findings from his bioeconomic model to evaluate the recovery of grizzly bears and consider the potential for a switch from reactive management under federal protections to active management under federal and state agencies.
Wisconsin Walmart Employee Tackles Deer In Store
When I was younger, I remember watching as a deer ran across the road in front of my car before running into a church that was just getting ready to start their service. It was hilarious as I watched everyone run out of the store, and the news report later that night showed the damage the deer caused after it knocked just about everything in the chapel.
Rebecca Pickel recorded the moment a deer was caught after running into a Walmart through somewhere near the back of the store.
An employee of the Baraboo Walmart was able to take the deer down, and hold it down until someone with more expertise in deer removal could come to aid the store.
