Betnijah Laney is off to a torrid start to the 2021 WNBA season, ranking third in the league in scoring (22.3 points per game) and having dropped at least 20 points in each of the New York Liberty’s first eight games. Laney recently earned Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career, and she shows no sign of slowing down for the 5-3 Liberty, who signed her to a three-year, maximum-salary contract this past offseason.
“Benijah’s a bucket,” raved rookie teammate Michaela Onyenwere. “Her pull-up is always on, and even if it’s not, she finds other ways to get to the basket and facilitate.”
After advancing to the NBA Playoffs for the first time in eight years, the Knicks bowed out with an opening round loss. Despite coming up short, things are trending upwards in New York, and the potential to enter the offseason with plenty of cap space could mean even bigger things for the franchise.
The feel-good story of the year had a hard crash Wednesday, dumped by the surprising and mouthy Atlanta Hawks in five games. The expectations were raised headed into the series by the Knicks’ strong finish, but they were relatively exposed as an overachieving bunch.

The batsman, Raynard van Tonder, was the bigger winner during the Free State Knights awards held on Thursday afternoon.
Van Tonder, who is currently in Zimbabwe for the South Africa A tour, won a total of four of the six awards up for grabs.
Van Tonder collected the awards for the 4-Day Domestic Player of the Year, the Player s Player of the Year, and Fans Choice and the big one, the Most Valuable Player of the Year.
The seamer, Migael Pretorius, was the recipient of the other two accolades, namely the T20 Player of the Year and the Most Improved Player of the Year.
