Tim Cone genuinely proud and happy of Gin Kings

Published January 18, 2021, 2:39 PM Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone (PBA Images) Barangay Ginebra San Miguel coach Tim Cone hailed the selection of Stanley Pringle, Japeth Aguilar, Prince Caperal and Scottie Thompson to individual honors in the PBA Special Awards while hoping to see the trend continue when it defends the Philippine Cup crown later this year. Ginebra nearly swept the awards handed out in Sunday night’s hour-long ceremony at the TV5 studios in Mandaluyong, with Pringle taking the most coveted award as the Best Player of the Conference. Arvin Tolentino fell short of making it a sweep for the Philippine Cup champions after placing second behind Meralco’s Aaron Black in the race for the Outstanding Rookie plum.

BEHIND THE SCENES: How the James Harden deal came together, what it took Share this story Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty Images James Harden is a Net and according to reports out of Brooklyn, Houston and Philadelphia, the Nets willingness to give up so many draft picks and the the Rockets’ desire for Victor Oladipo won the day for Brooklyn. But some of those same reports paint an even uglier picture of Harden’s departure, complete with a Rockets team meeting two days before the trade. In addition, reporting by the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey reveals that the 76ers thought they were getting Harden, but the Rockets were so happy with the Nets offer that they never even asked Philly to counter. Both Ben Simmons and Matisse Thybulle, reported to be the key pieces in a 76ers offer, “were even informed by their agents on Wednesday of an expected trade,” Pompey reported.

What we learned from the Spurs win over the Rockets

What we learned from the Spurs’ win over the Rockets Share this story Photo by Ronald Cortes/Getty Images After dropping a winnable matchup against the astonishingly shorthanded Rockets in their return from a grueling but successful Western Conference road trip, San Antonio bounced back on Saturday to put an end to their four-game home skid. Despite another slow start in which they let Houston hang around for the better part of three quarters, the Spurs took charge down the stretch and never relinquished the lead in the final frame. The Silver and Black brought themselves above .500 with this win, but the finale of their two-game midseason miniseries was hardly a cause for celebration. Their opponent fielded a roster of only eight healthy players. And they had trouble bottling up undrafted rookie Mason Jones and career-journeyman Ben McLemore as the ragtag tandem burned them for 45 combined points.
