NBA offseason grades: Here are the teams that are set for success

The Lakers are already better than last season’s championship team. They added a mix of young players (Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell) and veterans (Wesley Matthews, Marc Gasol) that all combine to offer more consistent secondary scoring and better health. Each move also offsets each roster change. No need to worry about Rajon Rondo’s absence. Schroder offers point-guard reinforcements. No need to fret about Danny Green’s departure. Matthews offers more consistent shooting and defense. No need to become concerned about losing rim protection from Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee. Gasol offers plenty of that. No need to stress about the Lakers giving up the No. 28 pick to Oklahoma City to land Schroder. They make such little impact that 27 of those past No. 28 picks have played fewer than five years, and five never played in an NBA game.

Giannis signs 5-year, $228M extension to remain with Bucks

Jesse D. Garrabrant / National Basketball Association / Getty Giannis Antetokounmpo has signed a five-year extension to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks, the team announced Tuesday. The two-time reigning MVP will make $228 million over the duration of the extension, his agent Alex Saratsis told ESPN s Adrian Wojnarowski. Antetokounmpo has an opt-out after the 2024-25 season. Including his $27.5-million salary for the 2020-21 campaign, the 26-year-old stands to make just under $256 million over the next six campaigns. Antetokounmpo s deal also contains a 15% trade kicker, The Athletic s Shams Charania reports. Trade kickers represent extra money a player can receive if he s dealt. This is a big moment for me and my family and I want to thank the Bucks organization for believing in us. You took a chance on us eight years ago and now putting my signature on a contract like this is unreal - but it s all because of hard work, Antetokounmpo said in a statement.

2020 Olympia: Battle in Orlando! By Ron Harris

I don’t need to remind any of you how Covid turned the entire world upside down this year. Our industry was business as usual until the Arnold Classic weekend in early March, when all hell broke loose. Just a week later, the Arnold Classic Australia was cancelled, which would be the first of many events to be either postponed by months or not held at all. Hopes were high, but uncertainty was rampant. Soon the most prestigious event in our sport was moved from its traditional September date to December. The doubters were out in force all over social media. “There’s no way they are having the Olympia this year,” was a common refrain. But Wood, Solomon, and the rest of the crew were determined that the show would go on, and they forged ahead. At the eleventh hour, restrictions in the state of Nevada regar
