The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has changed the way that we live in a number of different ways. We don t go out as much. We get things like meals and groceries to go. And a new study found that another habit is dying thanks to the pandemic. We aren t using cash to pay for anything.
Now first of all, paying with cash has been a dying trend for years now. Why have cash, when I can use by debit card everywhere. Some people like to always have a little cash with them, just in case they end up in a place where cards are accepted. But in 2021, how many of those places are left? Others like to have a certain amount of their income in cash simply because they claim in makes them spend it slower. Hey, whatever it takes. Personally, I tend to spend cash faster! That may be another issue altogether.
Can Money Buy Happiness? New Survey Says Yes!
There has been a lot of talk lately about money. Two near record lottery jackpots will do that. I can t tell you how many times this week I ve daydreamed of what I d do if I won the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot. Quit my job? Travel? Build a new house? Literally everything would be on the table! But the old saying money can t buy happiness usually is quoted before we get too carried away. But can money buy happiness?
A new study says that, yes, it can. A new study by the University of Pennsylvania says that money can buy you happiness, and there might not even be a limit. A similar study back in 2010 found the same thing, that yes, money can make you happier, but ONLY up to around $75,000. More than that doesn t make you any happier day to day. But the new study did not find this kind of limit.
New Marion YMCA Opens Monday
It s been 13 challenging months in the making but Monday, January 18 marks an exciting next step in the decade-plus planning for the rebirth of Marion with the opening of the new, $19.5 million YMCA.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette says the 75,000 square feet of recreation space at 3740 Irish Dr. comes with two floors of fitness equipment, basketball courts, racquetball, and a six-lane lap pool, fitness classrooms, a 1/8-mile indoor track..and even two football fields.
Bob Carlson, CEO and President of the YMCA told the Gazette it s a dream come true for not only him and his staff but of the community who have been waiting and looking forward to it following the derecho and still-ongoing pandemic.
