Surat: President of the Vali Mandal parents’ association was arrested and several other members of the body booked on Tuesday under the Epidemic Disease Act after chairman of the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) tested positive for Covid-19 five days after the members held protest in his office last month.
Police arrested Umesh Panchal, president of the Vali Mandal who was released on bail later on Tuesday. The FIR against Panchal and other unidentified members of the Vali Mandal was lodged by Bhavna Chaudhary, nodal officer of FRC for Surat Zone last month.
Based on the complaint by Chaudhary police booked Panchal, his associate Bharat Miyani and other unidentified persons under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 506 (criminal intimidation) and sections of The Epidemic Diseases Act.
