Strong second half sparks Navarro girls to 17th straight win, Tuesday game vs Gonzales to air on KWED

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today Jan 30, 2021 9:22 AM (Pleasanton) – The Navarro girls basketball team survived a cold shooting first half to notch its 17th straight win Friday night, 42-30 over Pleasanton in a District 27-4A road game. The teams were knotted up 11-all at halftime, but the Panthers heated up to outscore the Eagles 31-19 in the second half. Sophomore guard Tatum Harborth led all scorers with 13 points. Point guard Laylin Sturm also reached double figures with 11. Ryanne Hepp, Haleigh Ortiz, and Berklee Andrews added four points apiece. Julia Bumguardner, Karlee Koenig, and Taylor Helms each put in two. The win keeps Navarro unbeaten in district play with a 6-0 mark in 27-4A games and moves the overall record to 24-1.

Navarro girls down La Vernia in district opener, push winning streak to 11 games (La Vernia) – Navarro opened the District 27-4A girls basketball schedule with an impressive road win in a matchup of state-ranked teams, as the Panthers (No. 7 TXHSGBB) held off La Vernia (No. 14 TGCA) 61-51 on Tuesday. The Panthers led 34-25 at halftime and edged the Bears 27-26 in the second half to notch their 11th straight win. Tatum Harborth led all scorers 20 points, and Laylin Sturm reached double figures with 14. Sienna Kramer and Berklee Andrews added eight points apiece. Ryanne Hepp chipped in with four, Haleigh Ortiz three, Karlee Koenig and Mary Gilliam two apiece.

(Geronimo) – Junior outside hitter Elizabeth Williams earned Offensive MVP honors to lead a group of nine Navarro volleyball players who landed spots on the 27-4A All-District team for the 2020 season. Williams led the Panthers with 246 kills, and also contributed 26 aces and a team-high 39 blocks. Navarro’s First Team All-District selections include senior setter Sara Benner and senior libero Nelly Brumley. Benner distributed a team-high 399 assists to go with 167 digs, 18 blocks, and 31 service aces.
