A major announcement:
Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation is teaming up with Essex County Community Foundation as they are presenting the 2021 Institute for Trustees, an annual conference that invites non-profit leaders to gather together for educational workshops and future networking opportunities.

Grant Program Gives Berkshire Organizations Shot in the Arm
Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation announced in a press release Monday (Jan. 25) the distribution of over $48,000 through its Bridging Divides, Healing Communities grant program, a new initiative to support community-building activities aimed at strengthening relationships and trust at the local level, especially among people who hold different points of view or come from different backgrounds. Twenty-one organizations in four counties received grants of up to $2,500 for projects that seek to bring people together for the purposes of exploring shared interests, addressing a problem through dialogue and action, or considering an issue through a range of perspectives.
PITTSFIELD â Mindy Miraglia wanted to start a company that provides walking tours of the Berkshires.
Her initial idea included having a hostel for hikers similar to what she had seen while hiking a well-known route in northwestern Spain. But, as Miraglia began to develop her business plan, she realized that the hostel idea wasnât possible right now.
âSo, I did a major pivot,â she said.
Miraglia since has opened her business sans hostel, but she credits Entrepreneurship for All Berkshire County â itâs an organization that helps individuals develop small businesses â with the insight to help her change course.
PITTSFIELD â Starting college already was difficult, even without a global pandemic in the mix. But, that is what 10 young women of color who are members of the Rites of Passage and Empowerment (ROPE) Program faced after graduating from high school last spring.
This year, ROPE supported the students emotionally and financially as physical schools shuttered and students navigated online school, said founder Shirley Edgerton. The dislocation of coronavirus pandemic-era higher education meant added expenses, for things like travel and technology needs.
âThis year, because of COVID, weâre seeing the needs are even greater,â Edgerton said.
Amid the pandemic, ROPE has set out to expand the support it is able to offer its young scholars. This month, Edgerton said, ROPE is in talks with the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation about creating a fund that would provide an enduring source of support for young women who join the program for years to come.
