To get shots into every arm, Berkshire vaccines go mobile

“We need pens,” someone calls out. “Where are the pens?” The vaccinators have been readying themselves for the past hour, rushing to fill the van with syringes, signs and doses of the Moderna vaccine. The details still are coming together at the last possible moment as the van pulls up in a church parking lot ringed by white blossoms. Scribes grab clipboards and pull on jackets before they head outside, where several cars already have pulled in for the Friday morning clinic. Zenani Santos, 19, waits in one of those cars. Santos, one of just over a dozen people registered for this site, describes herself as “in the middle” on the vaccine enthusiasm scale.

The Checkup for April 22: State removes Lee, Williamstown from high-risk list; Adams remains

The list of communities that the state considers high risk for COVID-19 transmission has shortened for the second straight week. Massachusetts now counts 48 of its 351 communities on , compared to 59 the previous week. Lee and Williamstown dropped off the list after they were included last week, although Adams remains on the list for the fourth straight week. In Adams, however, the 26 new cases in the past two weeks barely meet the state’s threshold. The state counts communities with a population of under 10,000 as high risk if they have had more than 25 cases in the past two weeks. The state considers Dalton, North Adams and Pittsfield to be moderate risk, and it classifies Great Barrington, Lee and Williamstown as lower risk. All other Berkshire communities fall in the lowest risk category.

On tour of BCC clinic, Baker lauds Berkshire Vaccine Collaborative as highly efficient

PITTSFIELD — Gov. Charlie Baker praised local vaccination efforts as he met with Berkshire Vaccine Collaborative leaders and local officials at a site tour and news conference Thursday. More than 5.3 million total doses have been administered in Massachusetts, with more than 49 percent of Berkshire residents receiving at least one dose, slightly above the state average of 48 percent. Baker called the state’s phased distribution plan “quite successful” in its ability to administer doses efficiently, and he pointed out that the state ranks first in the nation for total doses administered per capita among states with more than 5 million people. Today, Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito will join Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer and other local leaders to tour the Berkshire Regional Collaborative vaccination site in Pittsfield, and provide an update on COVID-19 vaccination.

North Adams Vaccine Clinic Passes 16,000 Doses Given

Board of Health Chairman John Meaney, who as general manager of Northern Berkshire EMS has been part of the group operating the clinic, said it wasn t clear how many North Adams residents that included.    As of last week, more than 5,000 residents in North Adams and Clarksburg had received at least one dose. The state tracks inoculations by ZIP code, which the city and town share, and may also include the town of Florida. The Berkshire Vaccine Collaborative is open to any Massachusetts residents and those who work or attend school here but reside in other states.   The clinic has been able to administer double the number of doses when it first opened, with more than 1,500 per clinic last week. But the number is dependent on the doses the collaborative gets from the state.
