One Killed In Western Massachusetts Crash

At 3:22 p.m. Friday, April 23, troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Lee responded to the crash on the eastbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Becket.  Preliminary investigation by state police and the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office indicates that the tractor-trailer was eastbound approaching Mile Marker 15 when traffic in front of the truck began to slow because of traffic. Evidence suggests the truck struck the rear of the Camry and pushed that car into the Sienna, state police said.

Charges Pending in Fatal MassPike Crash

  Troopers from the state police barracks in Lee responded to a crash on the eastbound side of the MassPike in Becket at about 3:22 p.m. The crash involved a Freightliner tractor-trailer, a 2020 Toyota Camry, and a 2008 Toyota Sienna van.    Preliminary investigation by state police and the Berkshire District Attorney s Office indicates that the tractor-trailer was eastbound approaching Mile Marker 15 when traffic in front of the truck began to slow because of traffic. Evidence suggests the truck struck the rear of the Camry and pushed that car into the Sienna.    Both occupants of the Camry were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. The operator, identified as Gary Litwin, 69, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The passenger, a 66-year-old Ludlow woman, sustained serious injuries.

Tractor-Trailer Crash Kills Western Mass Man…Driver to Be Charged A major accident on the Mass Turnpike in Becket on Friday claimed the life of a 69-year-old Western Mass man according to a report released by the Mass State Police.  According to the report Troopers from the Lee Barracks responded Friday afternoon at 3:22 to a crash on the east bound side of the Mass Pike involving a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles. According to the report, the results of the preliminary investigation by State Police and the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office will lead to criminal charges against driver of the tractor-trailer that rear ended a Toyota Camry driven by Gary Litwin of Ludlow.  Litwin’s vehicle was then forced into a Toyota van.

The Berkshire Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force will present a webinar from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, via Zoom,  with activist-artist Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, author of “Stop Telling Women to Smile: Stories of Street Harassment and How We re Taking Back Our Power.” Fazlalizadeh will discuss and illustrate her work interviewing women from diverse backgrounds about the harassment they experience in public spaces. The webinar is the culmination of Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities during which two dozen local groups have read and discussed Fazlalizadeh s book.
