THE founder of online ticketing system Computicket, Percival “Percy” Tucker, has died at the age of 92.
News24 shared a statement sent to them by Percy’s family, confirming that he died of Covid-related complications on Friday, 29 January.
“South African entertainment has lost an industry pioneer in Percival ‘Percy’ Tucker, who passed away last night of Covid-related complications,” read the statement.
The legend created Computicket, the first computerised ticketing system in the world, in 1971.
He was born in Benoni, Ekurhuleni and got into theatre at the age of 10, according to his biography.

JOHANNESBURG - The family of Computicket founder Percy Tucker on Sunday said his passing marked the end of an era for the entertainment industry.
Tucker officially retired in 1994 and went on to publish his biography, Just the Ticket.
He has been hailed as a pioneer in the industry and his death comes just months after his partner and companion, Graham Dickason, passed away.
JOHANNESBURG - The founder of Computicket - Percy Tucker - died from COVID-19-related complications at the age of 92.
Tucker - who died on Friday launched Computicket in 1971 - the first electronic theatre booking system in the world which marks 50 years of existence this year.
He officially retired in 1994 and went on to publish his biography

Tucker s cousin Hazel Feldman said they are gutted by the loss.
“I’m terribly devasted, he was still so mentally sharp and he was always our go to go guy when it came to the entertainment industry.”
