Victorville man sentenced after pleading no contest to animal cruelty; pit bull puppy adopted

A judge has sentenced a Victorville man who beat a pit bull puppy and pleaded no contest to felony animal cruelty fewer than two weeks after his arrest.
San Bernardino Superior Court Judge Michael Camber sentenced 31-year-old Caliph Harris to 90 days in county jail where he will be eligible for a weekend/work release program.
Harris was given 12 days credit for time served,12 days credit for good conduct and will likely serve half his sentence per state law, court records show.
As part of his 24-month probation, Harris is prohibited from owning or caring for any animals and was ordered to participate in rehabilitative programs for animal abuse.
