Calls for recognition for Deeside councillor who restores faith in community

FAITH in Deeside ‘has been restored’ as the community has gone above and beyond to help those in need. The Deeside Crisis Centre has helped hundreds of families over the last few weeks, who have found themselves in hardship. What started out as an appeal to help two families with food parcels, has resulted in dozens of families being helped every day. Connah’s Quay councillor Bernie Attridge, who set the organisation up, has said he is ‘humbled’ by the great community response. One local resident, who did not wish to be named, said they received help within a couple of hours and is extremely grateful.

Deeside dad dies with coronavirus weeks after fire at his home

TRIBUTES have been paid to the best dad in the world who died with coronavirus just weeks after his Deeside home was gutted by a fire. Father-of-two Mark Bowen, 52, died on January 19 days after he was discharged from hospital following a battle with coronavirus. Mark, along with his daughter Samantha and her two young children, had to flee their house in Connah s Quay when a fire ripped through their home in late November. The blaze - the cause of which remains unknown - devastated the property, destroying most of the family s possessions. After spending a short time living with relatives, the family moved into temporary accommodation in Shotton while Flintshire Council carried out repairs to their permanent home on Dodds Drive.
