BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. Multiple agencies rescued a 25-year-old woman who was trapped in her vehicle after it landed in the St. Joseph River Monday morning, according to Michigan State Police.
The driver was traveling on E. River Road in Buchanan when she swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and lost control of her vehicle, police said.
The car hit a utility pole, two trees, went off a ledge, overturned and landed upside down in the river, police said.

NILES, Mich. â A search warrant lead to the arrest of 47-year-old man after finding an unregistered firearm, cocaine and more evidence of drug trafficking according to the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET).
The arrest occurred today in Niles, with the team leading the arrest comprised of the Berrien County Sheriffâs Office, Allegan Police Department, Allegan County Sheriffâs Office, Barry County Sheriffâs Office, Calhoun County Sheriffâs Office, Covert Township Police Department, Kalamazoo County Sheriffâs Office, Kalamazoo Township Police Department, Michigan State Police, South Haven Police Department, Saint Joseph County Sheriffâs Office, and Sturgis Police Department.
Benton Harbor man in critical condition following M-139 crash

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. â Police responded to a crash involving one vehicle on M-139 near Diller Road Monday evening.
Witnesses described a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt heading south on M-139 at high speed until it drove off the roadway where it failed to navigate a curve, according to the Berrien County Sheriffâs Office. They say the vehicle struck a dirt embankment, upon which the vehicle flipped, trapping the driver.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Damien Maynor from Benton Harbor, was extricated from the vehicle with the âJaws of Lifeâ before being taken to Spectrum/Lakeland Hospital for surgery, according to police. He reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. â Police responded to an armed robbery at the Cash Advance on Bell Road Thursday afternoon.
The suspects had taken off by the time deputies had arrived, according to the Berrien County Sheriffâs Office. They say witnesses provided a description of the suspect: a slim Black male standing at 5â9â, wearing dark-colored pants, a black hoodie and a face covering.
Police say the suspect showcased a weapon and demanded cash, making off with an undisclosed amount.
Weâre told the suspect took off in a black SUV traveling west on Bell Road.
Deputy rescues resident trapped inside burning home

NEW BUFFALO, Mich. A deputy saved a 72-year-old woman who was trapped inside her burning home early Thursday morning.
The resident called to report a fire at her home on W. Water Street in New Buffalo.
She was unable to escape from the home.
Deputy Michael Pellerito of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department arrived as flames engulfed the back corner of the residence.
He tried to go into the home through the front door, but was pushed back by heavy smoke, reports said.
