The deputy superintendent of the Maryland Natural Resources Police resigned Tuesday after news broke that he was arrested in Worcester County over the weekend on a drunken driving charge.
Lt. Col. Ernest Leatherbury Jr., who is an Ocean City resident, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to remain at the scene of a property damage accident, negligent driving and unsafe backing, according to Maryland State Police.
A spokesperson for Natural Resources police confirmed the agency was aware of the incident and had placed Leatherbury on emergency suspension pending an internal investigation. A Tuesday afternoon update announced Leatherbury had submitted his formal resignation.
