Due to coronavirus pandemic, only 700,000 passengers could be handled
The airport company is satisfied with the launch of Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt despite the difficult conditions it faced under the global coronavirus pandemic. The first 100 days since BER opened on 31 October 2020 have shown: The new airport and its infrastructure have proven to be efficient and reliable. The technical facilities and handling processes are running stably and ensure a high level of safety, even under winter conditions. Minor disruptions in the processes, which are common in such large-scale projects, could be resolved quickly. The new Terminal 1 has also been well received by both travellers and visitors. Their feedback on our facilities, service and cleanliness has been positive.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt has received two important certificates for strict compliance with hygiene measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. BER is now the first German airport to receive the Airport Health Accreditation from the international airport association Airports Council International (ACI). As part of this certification, ACI assesses the hygiene measures and procedures that have been introduced at airports after the COVID-19 pandemic began. Shortly before, BER was also the first German airport to be certified by Deutsches Hygienezertifikat. Both certificates guarantee a high level of safety for passengers during their stay in Terminals 1 and 5 of the new airport.
