BERHAMPUR: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Tuesday launched a drive to profile the socio-economic condition of street vendors and their families getting benefit under the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme. Based on the socio-economic profiling of PM SVANidhi beneficiaries and their families, various central government benefits like insurance, health insurance and unorganised labour benefits will be extended to them according to their eligibility, a government source said. BeMC commissioner Sidheshwar Baliram Bondare said in the corporation area, as many as 3,400 street vendors have registered to avail of the loan under the PM SVANidhi scheme. Out of them around 2,200 persons have already availed of the loans from various banks.

Ganjam getting purged off child marriage evil Post News Network Chhatrapur: The district administration in Ganjam has declared as many as 1,172 villages and urban wards in the district as child marriage-free, a report said Wednesday. Among them, 1,032 are villages and 140 are urban wards in the district. The matter came to fore after the district social welfare officer forwarded a letter to the state Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti department apprising of the development. As many as 111 villages of Chhatrapur block, 82 of Ganjam, 40 in Khallikote, 52 of Beguniapada, 71 of Polsara, 14 in Purusottampur, 75 in Kabisuryanagar, 12 in Hinjili, 70 in Rangeilunda, 72 in Kukudakhandi, 13 in Digapahandi, 47 in Sanakhemundi, 16 in Chikiti, 37 in Patrapur, 50 in Bhanjanagar, 20 in Belguntha, 35 in Jagannathprasad, nine in Aska, 27 in Dharakote, 75 in Sorada and 83 in Shergad blocks have been declared child marriage-free.

Ganjam still battles for TB elimination Post News Network Berhampur: Even as the government spends crores of rupees for eradication of tuberculosis, the killer disease has not yet been curbed in Ganjam. Prevalence of the diseases is evident from the fact that in the last two months, 656 people were diagnosed with TB in the district, a report said. Due to COVID-19, detection of TB has been stopped, but after the infection of the pandemic subsided, a two-month-long campaign was carried out from November 1 to December 31. ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, ANMs and health workers carried out a door-to-door survey to detect TB cases. As many as 450 teams had been formed for the purpose.
