A photography contest is being sponsored by the Belmond Growth Alliance. The goal is to accumulate a library of photos of the Belmond area that can be used on the new Belmond website and in other BGA publications.
ââThe contest opens May 1 and ends August 31. Anyone who lives in Wright County may submit no more than ten photos total over the all the categories, which include:
ââ Natural World: Animals, plants and landscapes, geological or climatological features, and scientific processes relating to Belmond and/or Wright County.
ââ Travel: Locales, people, or activities in Belmond and or Wright County that convey a sense of place.
  A contest called Yard of the Month is being sponsored this year by the Belmond Growth Alliance. Any yard in the Belmond-Klemme School District is eligible.
ââEntries for Yard of the Month will be taken by e-mail starting May 1 and will continue to be accepted until September 21. On the 21st of each month, a winner will be chosen and announced at the beginning of the following month âJune, July, August, September and October.
ââYards should be mowed and trimmed; free of weeds; and bushes and trees should be trimmed. Healthy flowers and yard art are encouraged. All buildings should be in good repair, and yards should have no non-moving vehicles, litter or junk.

The Jacobsen Fund Grant Award winners have been announced in Belmond. The grants help local businesses, civic groups, and organizations with financial assistance through the program. There were several applications and the winners were announced late last week.
The Belmond Growth Alliance has a website redesign project and will receive $26,300 from the Jacobsen Fund towards the realization of it. The Alliance initially asked for $25,000. The Belmond-Klemme Community School District requested $27,500 towards the public address replacement and enhancement at the football stadium. they will receive $335,000.
  The Belmond Growth Alliance is now taking nominations for the annual community awards. Due to Covid-19, the honors will be presented at a ceremony on Saturday, May 1 at 1 p.m. in City Park. (The committee hopes to return to a dinner format in 2022.)
ââNominations are being accepted until 3:30 p.m. onâFriday, March 26 for the following awards. Each nomination should be on a separate form and in a sealed envelope. Forms are available at City Hall, 112 2nd Ave. NE. For information call Julie Hegge at 444-3937.
