The Pella City Council will discuss parking in the Central Business District following regular business at their meeting Tuesday.
Construction for upgrades in the Oost Poort Alley will begin on May 10th, which includes closure of 80 parking spaces at the corner of East 1st and Washington Street for the majority of the summer and fall.
Council will discuss alternatives, which includes the parking lot directly north of Second Christian Reformed Church, and the rest of the lot will be fully acquired by the City of Pella this summer, providing 30 additional spaces. The first topic is a request from the Pella Disc Golf Club, who is requesting the city to refund donations received for construction of an 18-hole disc golf course, but the project has stalled as debate among residents and council halted work before completion. As part of a letter, the group proposed Bos Landen as a new location.
The second topic is a request from the Friends of the Big Rock Park to conduct an environmental study, and permission to apply for grant funding through the Marion County Community Foundation, with Central College conducting the survey.
The Pella City Council will have an initial review of the 2020-21 budget ahead of upcoming workshops at their meeting Tuesday. The council will receive an update during policy and planning following regular business about key initiatives before diving into details at a pair of workshops next Monday the 15th and Tuesday the 16th.
Additionally, a presentation will be given by the Pella Convention and Visitors Bureau, the organization responsible locally for using hotel-motel tax revenues to promote tourism to the community in partnership with the City of Pella. Among industries hit hardest by COVID-19, the Pella CVB says tourism was at the top of the list, which directly impacted their operating expenses, with nearly $65,000 in budget cuts made over the prior year.
