The director of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has charged three Belleville police officers with assault causing bodily harm in connection with a 2019 arrest at a city restaurant.
The provincial unit, which investigates cases of death, sexual assault and other serious injuries involving police, announced the charges Thursday via a news release.

The director of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has charged three Belleville police officers with assault causing bodily harm in connection with a 2019 arrest at a city restaurant.
The provincial unit, which investigates cases of death, sexual assault and other serious injuries involving police, announced the charges Thursday via a news release.

Belleville Police Service responded to 58 calls from May 13th 2021 at 5:00 a.m. to May 14th 2021 at 5:00 a.m.

Early morning stabbing
Early Friday at 3:45 a.m., police were called to a disturbance in the Tracey Park Drive area. Police and EMS arrived at the location to find a victim bleeding. The 32-year old city man was bleeding from his hand as a result of a sharp object wound. He was transported to hospital. His injury is considered serious, but non[1]life threatening. Officers quickly located, and arrested a 31-year old city man, taking him into custody on charges of: Assault with a weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code, and Assault causing bodily harm contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code. He is being held for a show-cause hearing in Belleville’s Ontario Court.
