BELLEFONTE In the Bellefonte area, there’s the school board race and then there’s everything else.
For Bellefonte Area School Board, six cross-filed candidates are vying for four nominations on each ballot: Jon Guizar, Rodney Musser, Jordan Emely, Jack Bechdel II, Jeffrey Steiner and Andrea Royer.
Bechdel, Guizar, Royer and Steiner are running on the well-advertised Win4Bellefonte campaign. According to its website, www.win4bellefonte.com, is a “bipartisan community organization supporting candidates that will encourage excellence, pride and tradition for the Bellefonte Area School District.” Guizar is the current BASD school board president. Steiner is the board’s former vice president.
BELLEFONTE The Bellefonte Area School District has a tentative graduation date.
At Tuesday night’s board meeting, interim superintendent Tammie Burnaford announced that graduation for the Class of 2021 will take place on Thursday, June 3. The rain date is Friday, June 4.
“With flexible instruction days, we can set the graduation date early because we won’t have to tack those days on at the end of the year,” Burnaford explained at the meeting, which was held via Zoom.
With that in mind, Burnaford said, she sat down with high school teacher Edward Fitzgerald, who takes on the task of coordinating graduation each and every year.

BELLEFONTE The Bellefonte READS Committee has announced its choice for this year’s “One Book, One Bellefonte” Celebration.
The feature title is Brave Like That by Lindsey Stoddard. Several companion books will also be available.
Community members of all ages are invited to drive up to Bellefonte Area Middle School anytime between 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, to pick up a free book.
Fun prizes will also be raffled off.
