Cape Town - Controversial businessman and alleged underworld kingpin, Nafiz Modack, has opened criminal cases against the Hawks, who he claims tried to extort nearly R1 million from him.
Modack says he was unsure why the investigators working on the murder case of slain cop Charl Kinnear and Brian Wainstein would involve him, as he is not a suspect in the case.
Modack, who was also investigated by Kinnear, says he was contacted last December shortly before the arrest of alleged Sexy Boys boss Jerome âDonkieâ Booysen for the 2017 murder of Wainstein. He was told that if he paid the investigator R250 000, they would ensure Donkie lands in jail.

Kilian was arrested in connection with the assassination of Anti-Gang Unit section head Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear.
Botha told the court that since taking over the matter on Monday, he had difficulty getting access to consult with Kilian, who is being held at Goodwood Prison.
Botha came aboard after advocate Johan van Aswegen withdrew from the matter, citing a conflict of interest. Kilian is accused of being part of a plot that claimed Kinnear’s life on 18 September 2020.
Kinnear was gunned down in broad daylight in front of his house in Gearing Street, Bishop Lavis, Cape Town. The State contends that Kilian pinged Kinnear’s cellphone 2,408 times and that this was instrumental in the execution of the murder plot.

The Bellville Regional Court heard that advocate Johan van Aswegen discovered a conflict of interest on Wednesday.
This is understood to relate to the submission of falsified documents on Kilian s private eye and security industry registration.
