Van Catches Fire After Hitting Deer South of Bellevue
BELLEVUE, Idaho (KLIX)-A van was destroyed by fire after it hit a deer on Idaho Highway 75 south of Bellevue Tuesday night. According to the Blaine County Sheriff s Office, the accident happened at around 10:23 p.m. about a mile north of the U.S. Highway 20 and Idaho 75 junction. Howard Wong, 59, had been headed north on Idaho 75 in a 1999 Volkswagen Eurovan when he hit a deer that ran across the highway. The impact caused the van to catch fire.

Wong, of Bellevue, Washington and his passenger were able to get out with minor injuries. According to Wood River Fire and Rescue the fire spread to a nearby field. The van was destroyed by the fire. The highway had to be closed for a short time. The deer ran away from the scene. One day after an appreciation dinner by an evangelical group was held in Bellevue, the police department s top brass on Wednesday reflected on the agency s response that appears to have limited unrest, chaos and damage in the city.
Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett said he was pleased with how the event turned out and that his officers helped spare his city from the type of damage that has occurred in Seattle and other cities during police protests.

Bellevue Police are preparing for possible civil unrest, alerting the public about anticipated protests downtown Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Some of the protests are linked to a controversial appreciation dinner for law enforcement at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue Tuesday night but police believe other groups are planning to protest too.
Dinner is billed as a gift from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. It s been controversial as Seattle police rescinded an invite. Civil rights groups will be in Seattle s downtown park Tuesday but police are concerned about other groups who are not protesting the event.
