Have you ever thought about how cool it would be to see your house in a movie? When they were filming in my neighborhood for an HBO show, I kept thinking, those people are going to get to see their house on tv. And that s pretty cool.
I remember when my Dad’s house was used for a Bath & Body Works print campaign years ago. I recall being so proud when I saw it, and he was showing it to everyone. And even better, my own house is in a weird movie called The Poughkeepsie Tapes for about a millionth of a second 42 minutes and change into the movie. I had no idea, but a friend told me about it. I was over the moon about that and I didn’t even get paid.
If the Brothers Grimm were looking for a place to set their Hudson Valley fairytale this property in Shandaken would make the perfect location. The home that sits amongst 50 acres of Catskill Mountain forest at 543 Oliverea Road looks like it was built to be the backdrop for an amazing Once Upon a Time type of story.
Back in the day, it was known as the Moose Lodge where people came to relax, stay a few days and take in some of the local color. Today this well built, in need of a bit of love, historic Catskill Mountain lodge is looking for its next story to tell. In pretty good shape but basically a camp more than a resort, This beautiful property is ready to help write your happily ever after.

In a year like 2020, it only seems fitting that New York’s ski season started off with a catastrophe.
It was early Christmas morning when snow from a trail on Belleayre Mountain loosened and plummeted into a mid-mountain lodge, smashing doors and windows. Although the incident wasn’t technically an avalanche, its aftereffect certainly looked like one.
A ski resort in the Hudson Valley sustained some serious damage after an avalanche.
The incident happened during the severe storm on Friday morning, Dec. 25 at Belleayre Mountain, located in Highmount in Ulster County, when the snow slid into one of the resort s lodges. Thankfully, the building was not occupied and no one was injured during this weather event, Belleayre Mountain said in a statement. The snowguns were turned on Saturday afternoon working their magic and groomers will be out later on tonight dressing the trails up for us.
The resort said it will be opening up on Sunday, Dec. 27 with five trails and four lifts spinning.
