PHC bans TikTok over immoral content

Videos being uploaded on TikTok are not acceptable for our society,  says PHC Chief Justice Qaisar Rashid PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to ban popular social media platform TikTok in the country citing immoral content . PHC Chief Justice Qaisar Rashid Khan presided over the hearing of a petition filed against the social media platform. The telecommunication authority s director-general, provincial deputy attorney general and the petitioner s counsel were present in the court. “The kind of videos being uploaded to TikTok are unacceptable in our society as they are spreading obscenity and must be stopped immediately,” the PHC CJ remarked during the hearing.

High court seeks report on donation demands by private medical colleges - Newspaper

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advocate general to produce a report about the alleged monetary demands made by private medical colleges to students for admissions. A bench consisting of Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Syed M Attique Shah observed that some private medical colleges had become money-minting machines and thus, playing with the future of the deserving students. It fixed Mar 25 for the next hearing into a petition seeking orders for domicile restriction for admission to private medical and dental colleges in the province and declaring illegal the assigning of 20 per cent interview marks for those admissions.

Pakistan: Rights group calls for release of activist Professor Muhammad Ismail ahead of bail hearing ANI | Updated: Mar 02, 2021 17:08 IST Peshawar [Pakistan], March 2 (ANI): A civil rights group has demanded that the bail application of Pakistani human rights defender Professor Muhammad Ismail should be accepted by the Peshawar High Court on March 5 and the charges against him and his wife, Uzlifat Ismail, should be dropped immediately. On March 2, Professor Ismail would have spent one month in prison. The Global civil society alliance CIVICUS also called on Pakistani authorities to stop persecuting and intimidating other members of his family. Professor Muhammad Ismail was arrested on February 2, 2021 after the Anti-Terrorism Court in Peshawar cancelled his interim pre-arrest bail. On February 4, the professor was chained and taken to his family home in Marghuz village, Swabi District.
