Netherlands adds voice to global demands for UN visit to West Papua

Indonesia’s former coloniser, the Netherlands, has become the 83rd international state calling for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to be allowed into West Papua. Following questions posed by parliamentarians from seven Dutch political parties, Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Stef Blok said this week that, “it is important to have such a visit” by the High Commissioner “as soon as possible”, reports the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP). Minister Blok also noted that the Dutch government was aware of a large number of organisations opposing the renewal of Indonesia’s “Special Autonomy” provisions in West Papua.

PM slams criticism of meeting with Venezuelan envoy Dr Keith Rowley THE Prime Minister is unfazed by the Opposition s criticism of a meeting between himself and Venezuelan Ambassador Carlos Amador Perez Silva. He said, Their head just hard. They re not learning. Dr Rowley met with Perez Silva on Monday at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann s. In a release, the Office of the Prime Minister said the meeting focused on issues related to national security, immigration and covid19. It said Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne, Minister of National Security Stuart Young and Ricardo Sánchez, chief of the consular section of the Venezuelan embassy, also attended.
