KERN COUNTY, Calif. (KERO) â A huge congrats to local Kern County science fair winners who took home big awards at the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair, the largest science competition in the world.
In the systems software category, local Ridgeview High School seniors Joseph Cestone and Kevindeep Dhesi competed. In the biomedical engineering category, brothers Harjaisal and Ishaan Brar from Stockdale High School competed with different projects.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â The Bakersfield City School District approved a deal that would pay new superintendent Mark Luque $235,000 a year. Luque s deal will run from June 1 through June 30, 2024.
Luque was named the successor to Doc Ervin, who announced earlier this year that he would be leaving the district at the end of the school year.
According to the agreement, Luque would receive $235,000 annually and would be subject to percentage increases or decreases based on salary negotiations through the district s certified management team.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â The Bakersfield City School District will celebrate in-person 8th-grade graduation ceremonies in June.
BCSD will also offer drive-thru ceremonies for 8th-grade students and families interested in an alternative celebration.
Abiding by local and state guidance, attendance will be limited for the in-person graduation event.
BCSD schools will begin to communicate additional information with students and families in the coming weeks.
Parents are encouraged to access the ParentSquare app for future communications about the date, time, and location of these graduation celebrations.
