China to gift 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Maldives

The Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Zhang Lizhong, on Thursday, confirmed China s decision to aid 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Maldives.
According to the ambassador, the governments of the two countries are currently discussing arrangements to ensure an early arrival of the vaccine doses.
Tagging President Ibrahim Solih and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, the ambassador tweeted that China is committed to making vaccines a global public good .

The World Bank’s new Country Director for Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, Faris Hadad-Zervos, completed his first visit to Maldives last week.
According to the World Bank, the purpose of Hadad-Zervos’ visit was to experience firsthand the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery efforts, as well as the progress and results of the World Bank-supported projects in the archipelago.
“Maldives story has always been one of resilience. Time and again, we have seen the Maldives confront its vulnerabilities and external shocks, only to emerge stronger,” the Country Director said.
