By THOMAS GNAU | JOURNAL-NEWS Published: March 12, 2021 (Tribune News Service) The U.S. Air Force accepted the first F-15EX, the service s newest fighter, from the Boeing Co. Wednesday at the company s St. Louis facility, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) said Thursday. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base personnel and area contractors have been part of the team overseeing and developing the new jet, which celebrated its first flight last month above St. Louis Lambert International Airport. AFLCMC is based at Wright-Patterson. The new fighter is a two-seat aircraft (which can be flown by a single pilot) with fly-by-wire flight controls, digital cockpit displays, and advanced avionics, the center said in a release.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base personnel and local contractors are part of the team overseeing and developing the new jet, which took off and landed from St. Louis Lambert International Airport, completing a 90-minute test flight, Boeing reported. A test team monitoring the data collected during the flight in real time confirmed that the aircraft performed as planned, Boeing said. Officials at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are working to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to those working on the base. The first group eligible to receive the vaccine includes people working in healthcare and emergency services, and the base’s public safety personnel.
