ROCKLAND Two boat-related events that were slated in Rockland for the summer of 2020 are tentatively returning to the calendar for 2021, toned down, adapted, and reliant on State CDC recommendations. Spokespeople representing each event requested City support during the April 8 City Council meeting.

“It was going to be a fantastic celebration of the maritime elements of Maine’s history, and in particular, Rockland’s role in that story,” said the organizing group’s spokesperson, Dan Bookham.
With a looming “go/no-go” date of June 1, organizers of Rockland’s Bicentennial group are again making plans for a potential Friday, July 2, celebration. Because of the waterfront location of the events, those plans of “what we feel we can do under the current guidelines,” said Bookham, are subject to review by the Harbor Management Committee. Org

The Davistown Museum is a tool, art, and regional history museum with two physical locations in Maine and a website, rich with resources. Its main building is in Liberty, while its office and a sculpture garden are in Hulls Cove (Bar Harbor). The primary mission of the museum is the recovery, display, and interpretation of hand tools used in Maine and New England s maritime culture. It serves as an important clearinghouse for information on the history of hand tools and their roles in the early industries of Maine and New England and offers an extensive exhibit of hand tools in Liberty and online. The Museum also provides a forum for contemporary Maine artists to exhibit their work, creating a unique environment that juxtaposes tools, as both historical and sculptural objects, with a wide diversity of art forms. The Camden Public Library partners once again with the Penobscot Marine Museum on Thursday, April 22, at 6 p.m., for a special presentation during its celebration of Maritime Month, titled Maynard Bray s Photography: An Aficionado s Look at Waterfronts and Watercraft . This time, CPL will be welcoming the museum’s Digital Collections Curator, Matt Wheeler, for an online narrated slideshow featuring selections of outstanding maritime photography from the museum’s Maynard Bray Collection. Wheeler will discuss Maynard Bray’s background and examine the range of subjects embedded in his photographic work.
