Tuesday’s news of IndyCar’s media rights deal of the future with NBC is a vote of confidence in the series not yet eclipsed since Roger Penske took ownership more than 18 months ago. It’s an IMS-sized billboard that say, in no uncertain terms, “This is working.”
Penske’s purchase of the series signaled that IndyCar’s biggest name saw a potential worth investing in, as well as a history he hoped to preserve. But this multi-year extension with NBC was forged on concrete results the series has shown in the 50 races since ABC relinquished IndyCar’s network TV rights more than three years ago.
