The California Department of Transportation has announced that all southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway near Burbank will be closed at night, for a period of three weeks beginning June 1.
From June 1 until June 19, the southbound 5 Freeway will be closed from the Empire Avenue interchange to Magnolia Boulevard for bridge construction. Download our mobile app for iOS or Android to get the latest breaking news and local stories.
Crews will lift and place 90-foot girders above the freeway at Burbank Boulevard where a bridge and interchange are being constructed, as part of the High Occupancy Vehicle project by Caltrans, Metro, and the city of Burbank.
The Park City Police Department last week and early in this week received a series of complaints involving construction crews or construction sites, cases that included parking issues and heavy equipment reported on someone’s property.
The police over the years have regularly received complaints about construction issues. The recent cases appeared to be similar to many of those traditionally reported, but they are noteworthy nonetheless toward the beginning of the construction season in Park City.
Some of the recent cases reported to the police included:
• on Sunday, April 25 at 12:03 p.m., a construction gate reportedly blocked the 500 block of Park Avenue. Public police logs did not provide details about the problem. The police said the gate created a traffic hazard.
BROCKTON A pair of white flip flops, a black knit hat and other personal belongings each item outlined by orange spray paint were left in the middle of Centre Street early Friday morning.
The items were left behind at the scene of a pedestrian crash that left a woman critically injured late Thursday night.
The crash occurred about 11:19 p.m. Thursday on Centre Street, across the street from East Middle School and the Centre Plaza that houses Luanda Restaurant & Lounge and the East Side Package Store.
First responders say they found a 39-year-old Charlestown woman suffering from serious injuries.
Police say she jumped into ongoing traffic on Centre Street near Empire Avenue.

Designed by EIW Architects for the client, Newman College, the $10-million auditorium showcases COLORBOND Metallic steel cladding in the rich red colour of Aries, drawing attention from its highly prominent location on the school s Marcellin campus. The design was led by project architect Tony D Andrea along with design architects Philip Idle and Chloe Summers.
EIW design architect Chloe Summers said she hoped her project, which was then still in construction, would wow its audience at its official opening, timed to coincide with the start of the school year.
