It has been 40 years since we first met Indiana Jones - not just one of the best Harrison Ford characters but, perhaps, the all-time greatest movie hero in one of the greatest action films ever made. Producer George Lucas and director Steven Spielberg made
Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 as a tribute to the movies (specifically serialized adventure stories of the 1930s and 1940s), not realizing it would become one of the most attributed and inspirational movies in history. Like many of you, until the other day, until I started writing what youâre now reading, I hadnât stepped foot in a movie theater in more than a year. The last thing I saw in a theater was . I actually donât remember. Iâm sitting here, trying to recall, trying to recall, and. nope, nothing. It feels much too long ago to remember. The last âStar Warsâ? Maybe Greta Gerwigâs âLittle Womenâ? Perhaps â1917â? Whatever it was, Iâm guessing it was from 2019, and most likely an Oscar movie. I know I didnât see a single film last year inside of a theater or screening room, and like roughly 70% of Americans, according to polls, itâll be another six months before Iâm comfortable going routinely.

Raging Bull and only
Raging Bull should’ve won Best Picture, Robert Redford’s Oscar-winning directorial debut is constantly attacked as something along the lines of a subpar movie of the week.
