Northern Negros Occidental LGUs brace for Auring

SunStar Photo courtesy of Pagasa February 18, 2021 LOCAL government units (LGUs) in the northern part of Negros Occidental have already started making their preparations for the onslaught of Tropical Storm Auring, which is forecasted to traverse the area sometime around Sunday, February 21, 2021, or Monday. In Victorias City, Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca held a meeting with the city s barangay captains on Wednesday. During the meeting, Palanca told barangay captains to make their preparations and take necessary steps to protect residents in their respective barangays. Barangay captains in the city also gave an update to Palanca of their current Covid-19 situation. In San Carlos City, Mayor Renato Gustilo also called for a meeting with city officials and the local police in preparation for the storm on Wednesday night.

Negros Occidental floods leave 2 dead

SunStar + January 10, 2021 A SECOND wave of flash floods hit the Third District and other northern Negros areas Friday night, January 8, 2021, up to early Saturday morning, January 9, that resulted in two casualties. Marvito Yap Lumanog, 43, was found dead, Saturday after his flood-hit house made of light materials fell on him in Hacienda San Herman, Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City. A cadaver of a male victim was also found in a creek Sunday in Purok Santan, Barangay Zone 11, Talisay City. The victim, who was not yet identified as of Sunday evening, was believed to have drowned due to the strong current of the water.

TD Vicky displaces 207 families in Davao de Oro

Road clearing operations in Upper Clip, Monkayo, Davao de Oro (Monkayo LGU/ Facebook/ MANILA BULLETIN) A situational report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) said that, as of 5 p.m., December 18, a total of 207 families in different areas of Davao de Oro due to the large amount of rainfall brought by “Vicky” that resulted in floods and landslides. The affected families came from the towns of Compostela (50), Monkayo (51), Montevista (58), and Pantukan (48). Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy noted that there was no casualty recorded. “Wala’y narecord o nareport nga casualty ang probinsya sa paghapak sa TD Vicky sa Davao de Oro (No casualty recorded or even report in the province while TD Vicky hit Davao de Oro),” Uy said in a Facebook post.
