SMC also suspended city bus and Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) services in Covid-19 affected areas of the city from Tuesday itself. “City bus and BRT services have been suspended in Covid-19 affected areas such as Athwa, Rander, Piplod, Adajan, textile market areas and routes which connect schools and colleges in the city. A total of 60 BRT buses and 240 city buses will take off the city roads,” said an SMC official.

Islamabad: The French Agency for Development (AFD) has provided a soft loan of 65 million euros to Pakistan for the safe and environment-friendly public transport project in Karachi.
Pakistan’s Secretary of Economic Affairs Division Noor Ahmed, Ambassador of France Marc Barety and AFD’s country director Philippe Steinmetz signed the credit financing agreement worth 65 million euros this week. France will co-finance the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system with Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asian Infrastructure Investment bank (AIIB) and Green Climate Fund (GCF). The project “will be one of the very first collaborative operations for AIIB and GCF in Pakistan on urban development” according to the official statement.

The planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that is envisioned to transform mass transportation of people is finally starting to take shape with remodelling of Thika Superhighway.
Works on pick-up and drop-off points are currently in progress to pave way for high-capacity express buses that will use the inner lanes on both sides of the dual carriage.
