The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a partnership of FIDH and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), has received new information and requests your urgent intervention in the following situation in Belarus.
New information:
Leanid Sudalenka, lawyer of the Homieĺ (Gomel) branch of Viasna, and
Maria Tarasenka, Viasna’s volunteer and Mr. Sudalenka’s assistant. Mr. Sudalenka works on documenting human rights violations and has helped Belarusian citizens to prepare over 84 individual complaints to the UN Human Rights Committee. Leanid Sudalenka is a laureate of the 2018 “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” Human Rights Prize of the French Republic.
Her house has been searched, she is being kept in the TDF at the moment.
Maryja Tarasenka is the most well-known housewife in the country, who two years ago proved in court that she is not a parasite. The woman was exempted from paying higher rates for public utilities, tut.by reports.
