Locals promote emerging authors on nuWriters podcast

With a friendship that has spanned decades and a mutual love of books, Annie Robbins of Colorado Springs and Stacy Schubloom of Woodland Park are channeling their passion for reading into a new entrepreneurial endeavor — a podcast that explores books from emerging authors. Launched in October 2020, nuWriters highlights a different book each week, complete with an in-depth interview with the author. “Our goal is to feature a variety of books,” says Schubloom, adding, “They have to be from a debut author. It has been a big effort to reach a variety of people who have just published.” The podcast is also an opportunity to use their platform to support new authors and amplify the works of people of color and other individuals who struggle to promote their books in an industry that makes it difficult to get noticed without a publishing giant paving the way.

PPLD and D-2 increase student access to digital resources

kozirsky | Shutterstock.com Pikes Peak Library District and Harrison School District 2 have partnered to provide all D-2 students with PowerPass, a digital PPLD library card. “The PowerPass grants access to PPLD’s digital resources, like databases, eBooks, and song and movie downloads, all available at ppld.org. Each PowerPass holder can also check out five physical items at a time from any of the 15 PPLD locations or mobile library services,” said a joint news release about the partnership.  D-2 will be the second local school district to offer PowerPass to its students; Colorado Springs School District 11 was the first.  The release notes that some educational challenges posed by COVID-19 may be mitigated by increased access to digital resources.
