More than 50 gravesites vandalized at Manitou Springs cemetery

MANITOU SPRINGS â The Manitou Springs Police Department is investigating vandalism at the Crystal Valley Cemetery.
A statement from the city said crews found more than 50 monuments and gravesites had been toppled or broken. Large amounts of trash and a small burn area were also found in the cemetery.
Crews are working to restore the cemetery and the Parks and Recreation Dept. will be contacting the families and plot owners whose loved one s gravesites were damaged, the statement said.
âIt is disheartening to see such disregard and damage towards the memories of our communityâs loved ones,â Interim Chief of Police Bill Otto said. âWe have heightened our patrols around the Cemetery and are urging anybody with information to anonymously contact that Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers, where they could receive a cash reward.â

New tool lets Colorado Springs residents anonymously report animal abuse
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) If you spot animal cruelty around Colorado Springs, you now have an easy way to report it anonymously to animal law enforcement investigators.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region and Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers are teaming up to launch a new reporting tool that s online and at Crime Stoppers 24/7 tip line.
Crime Stoppers and HSPPR say they hope the new tool will lead to more tips and witnesses, helping them investigate and prosecute suspects involved in animal abuse.

End-of-year field trips to the zoo, Garden of the Gods and college campuses have been called off for Atlas Preparatory School students because thieves stole catalytic converters from two activity buses last week.
Administrators at the charter school, which primarily serves low-income students in southeast Colorado Springs, also are scrambling to figure out how athletes can get to girls’ soccer games and track-and-field meets over the remaining few weeks of school.
“It’s rather unfortunate,” Brittney M. Stroh, executive director of Atlas Prep, which enrolls 1,100 kindergarten through 12th graders.
“We’re in the last four weeks of school, and we don’t have any way to transport kids to cultural and recreational field trips and sporting events.
