Newark College staff and students collect dozens of gifts for Children’s Bereavement Centre and Women’s Aid Published: 07:00, 24 December 2020 Students and staff at Newark College collected dozens of presents for the Children’s Bereavement Centre and Women’s Aid. The generous donation was part of a continuing project at the college called Love Our Community. Penny Taylor, the college’s advanced curriculum coach, said: “We have been blown away by the generosity of the people who work and study here. Newark Collge have been collecting presents collection for Womens Aid and Childrens Bereavement Centre as par of the our Love our community project this Christmas. People all over the world will be stepping out onto their porches or balconies to ring bells at exactly 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and the City of Toronto is encouraging all residents to participate to help spread Christmas spirit and show appreciation for frontline workers. The idea for the Christmas Eve Jingle began in North Yorkshire, England and quickly spread throughout the world, resulting in a Facebook group that now has more than 460,000 members from all over.  Toronto resident Craig Power also shared the idea in the South Etobicoke Community Group Facebook page earlier this month, and hundreds of people expressed in interest in participating.

The Lock the Gate Alliance has stationed baseline air monitoring devices at key locations in the region, with plans for more on the horizon. The proposed mines would be constructed in Avondale and Winfield if the company is successful. Following numerous community meetings and a petition, Lock the Gate has taken the unprecedented step of installing air quality monitors - a first for any Queensland community group. Long-time Avondale resident Penny Taylor, who has called the area home for 31 years, said the monitors were to show that the Bundaberg Protectors Group was not afraid of a fight.
