Pillarella was driving north on Radio Road near Baltusrol Court in Little Egg Harbor at about 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 30 when he lost control of his car on a curve, crossed over the center line and struck the southbound vehicle carrying the teens Kaitlyn behind the wheel, authorities said.
The girls were flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with life-threatening injuries.
“This is every parent’s worst nightmare,“ said Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of both of these young women. The driver should have been celebrating her birthday last weekend, instead she was fighting for her life in the hospital.

The two girls were airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where they remain listed in critical condition.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Monday that Michael Pillarella, 26, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of assault by auto. Pillarella was initially charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain his lane.
At about 9:45 pm Saturday, Jan 30, Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to Radio Road and Baltusrol Court for a report of a two-vehicle crash with serious injuries.
Barnegat man admits killing passenger in drunken crash
STAFFORD A man who police say crashed his car and killed his passenger after speeding while drunk in March has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.
Jeydon Lowe, 24, of Barnegat, is facing several years in prison for crashing his car at 5:30 p.m. on March 25.
Investigators said he was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt at an extremely high rate of speed when he lost control and smashed into a tree on Stafford Avenue near Hilliard Boulevard.
Robert Parlin, 24, of Little Egg Harbor, was pronounced dead at the scene. Parlin was a graduate of Pinelands Regional High School, according to his obituary.
