Ministry of Labour extends packages for private sector By: Times News Service Muscat: Based on the decision of the Supreme Committee on Covid, the Ministry of Labour has announced that the packages announced for the private sector enterprises and their workforce to continue until March 31. As per the package, the private sector companies and institutions should commit not to terminate Omanis employed in private firms and affected private sector establishments may negotiate to lower the salaries of their workers for a period of three months in return for a reduction of duty hours after the expiry of outstanding days of an employee’s paid leave. If necessary, this system will begin to be applied with effect from March 31, 2021.

Oman opens up $2.5bn PPP projects for foreign investment MUSCAT, December 29, 2020 Oman has opened up around 33 projects and initiatives on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis, involving investments worth over $2.5 billion, for local and international investment, said a report.    The sultanate’s solid waste management flagship, be’ah, is promoting an array of projects for local and foreign investment as part of its drive to sustain a circular economy centring on the solid waste sector, reported   The biggest of these is a waste-to-energy Independent Power Project (IPP) utilising municipal waste for power generation – a venture estimated to cost $700 million.   Together with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), be’ah has plans to support the development of another waste-to-energy project for the production of thermal energy, stated the report.
