PHOENIX â Arizonaâs top education official calls a new law signed by Governor Doug Ducey that bans school leaders from mandating strict mitigation measures highly political.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman tells ABC15 she has reached out to the Arizona Department of Health Services for more clarity on the new law that has passed and what it means for guidance in schools.
âItâs very frustrating to have our lawmakers pass laws that are going against the science, and are tying the hands of our school leaders from doing whatâs best to protect our kids and our teachers and causing more fear and uncertainty,â said Hoffman.
In August 2020, ASU launched an emergency effort to train Arizona teachers to support them through the unprecedented professional challenge of large-scale remote and hybrid learning. A year later, educators are looking ahead to a learning landscape that will never be the same.

Earlier today a man called my office saying I deserve to die and wanting to know “what she is wearing so she’ll be easy to get.” It was one of at least three such threats today. Then a man who I’ve never seen before chased me and my staffer outside of our office. https://t.co/kKoc3g02Io Secretary Katie Hobbs (@SecretaryHobbs) May 7, 2021
