BOISE April 29, 2021 Six members of Idahos high school Class of 2021 have been selected as semifinalists for the U.S. Presidential Scholars program.Selection as semifinalists for this prestigious national recognition program is a great honor, and I congratulate these six students, their families and their schools on this accomplishment, Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra said.

Two students and one custodian were injured in a shooting that took place at Rigby Middle School at 8:12 a.m. May 6.Â
Central Fire Chief Carl Anderson stated in a press conference following the shooting that the injured staff member had placed himself between the shooter and the two students. The staff member and two students have been transferred to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Anderson further said that the shooter had been apprehended between the time of 8:12 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Identities of the victims and the shooter have not been released at this time.Â
According to a press release by Jefferson Joint School Dist. #251, the injuries sustained are non-life threatening. Students from the middle school were evacuated to Rigby High School where parents may pick them up. Students that are not picked up will be bussed home.

âThis program increases Idaho studentsâ consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, introducing healthy snack options for schoolchildren throughout the state,â Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra said. âChildren love the wide variety of tasty, nutritious fruits and veggies, including unusual or exotic foods they otherwise might not experience. And school leaders love providing healthy choices for students.â
During the 2020-21 school year, 118 schools across Idaho received FFVP grants and made fresh fruit and vegetables available to students at no cost to the student. To be eligible, schools must meet the following criteria:

During the 2020-21 school year, 118 schools across Idaho received FFVP grants and made fresh fruit and vegetables available to students at no cost to the student. To be eligible, schools must meet the following criteria:
Be an elementary school (eligible students in grades 1 through 6)
Operate the National School Lunch Program
Had more than 50 percent of their enrolled students eligible for free/reduced-price meals in school year 2019-2020.
