11 North-East and North Yorkshire areas see rise in Covid cases just days ahead of Christmas Picture: PUBLIC HEALTH ENGLAND THE majority of areas across the North-East and North Yorkshire have reported rises in the number of Covid cases just days ahead of the Christmas period. Eleven out of 14 council areas across the region have seen a rise in the number of new infections, compared to the week before. It comes as restrictions are set to be relaxed for Christmas Day across England with up to three households permitted to mix. The figures, which were published by Public Health England on December 21, show how some areas in our region have seen cases surge in the past seven days.

Coronavirus in Herefordshire: spike in new cases as 72 reported

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Herefordshire has risen by 72 over the past 24 hours, latest figures show. Public Health England figures show that 2,849 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Sunday (December 20) in Herefordshire, up from 2,777 the same time on Saturday. It means since Monday, the total number of cases has risen by 175 from 2,674. The 72 new cases reported by Public Health England on Sunday, compares to 30 on Saturday and 19 on Friday. The graph below shows the number of cases in Herefordshire by date of test, and not the day when the cases were published by PHE.
