Coronavirus cases climb again in L.A. County, mostly in those under 50 Dakota Smith
The number of COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County climbed again Saturday as public health officials reported 1,094 new cases and eight deaths. The majority of the new cases are among individuals between the ages of 18 and 49, officials said.
L.A. County was averaging 598 new cases a day over the past week, according to a preliminary Times tally, so the last few days mark a significant increase from a month ago, when the county was reporting fewer than 200 new cases a day. On Friday, officials reported 1,060 new cases.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles County s alarming spike in coronavirus cases continued today, as officials reported another 1,094 new cases of COVID-19 and eight additional deaths.
The number of people hospitalized in Los Angeles County due to the virus is also rising steadily, swelling from 336 on Friday to 373, according to state figures. There were 79 people in intensive care as of Saturday, down from 83 the previous day.
Local health authorities also said Saturday that transmission of COVID-19 is increasing among younger, unvaccinated county residents. Of the 1,094 new cases reported by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, 83% are among people under the age of 50 years old with the highest number of new cases among residents between the ages of 18 and 49 years old, with 70% of new cases.
